macOS: Connect to SMB shares on startup

2 Methods:

  1. Login-items: This sometimes doesn’t work if the OS loads and tries to connect to the share before the network is available.
    • Connect to the smb share: Go > Connect to Server
    • Drag the mounted share to Login Items: Settings > General > Login Items
  2. Automator app: This method works best. Create an automator app, then have that app load at startup using method 1 login items.
    1. Create a automator app.
    2. Get Specified Servers. Input the server name and the share name: smb://server.domain.local:445/share_name
    3. Connect to Servers. This will connect to any servers passed to it.
    4. Save App
    5. Add app to login items: Settings > General > Login items

Welcome to my personal blog! This site is dedicated to my personal interests in IT, Photography, and Cooking. Running an IT homelab and needed a website for proof of concept and constant tinkering. I figured recipes would make good content. Let's face it, finding recipes online can be challenging! Between navigating past countless ads and lengthy superfluous instructions, it takes far too long to find the actual recipe. Posting recipes here for my quick reference. Hope you can find them useful as well. Pictures (taken with mobile) and instructions written for myself.
